>>107422I would say about LoLK, that's probably the last game where I can name most of the characters.
I did 1cc both HSiFS and WBaWC but I genuinely remember only: Aunn and Eternity larva.
The fact that I 1cc both on my 4th try probably didn't help, but I probably wouldn't have bothered with those games for much longer either way.
It sucks for me because I want to enjoy the new Touhou games, I want there to be more to play, but I just can't.
>>107445Yes and no.
Mima was a important and interesting character in the PC98 games. There are people who care for her unironically.
On the other hand, Mima-posting has become something of a meme because everyone knows that she'll likely never come back.

I also know Setzeri (Finnish 4koma guy) and the author of Imperfect Metamorphosis also lost interest around LoLK, wonder why this is so common
Me personally I've yet to hit the wall, I'm still super into into the series but i got like nothing better to do. So that helps
>>107427Funny because 20 might be one of my favourite newhu casts just because of how connected they are to prior characters and lore. Ubame... is forgettable though like sorry even Nemuno fans don't care for her that much
Chimi is apparently related to Nue and she made Nareko so that makes the Egyptian 2hu the alien's niece. Yuiman has a cool design + lore and she has Kanako connections, Ariya is the biggest because anyone that's read CiLR (and parts of FS) would know Iwanagahime showing up as a character is huge plus she's part dinosaur so that's cool
Nina is my waifu no joke
No.107766
>>107422I feel like I'm kind of a weird case. My knowledge of Touhou canon becomes much more shaky after 15 almost entirely because I became disillusioned with the fan translations at the time, inchling is an insultingly bad 4kids-ism for kobito and the ULiL translation was also pretty bad. That said, I really didn't care for the animal hell storyline/shilling and I thought 19 was just a really kuso game with a really kuso cast of characters. 20 is pretty good at least.
>>107440I like Mai and Yuki, even if their gimmick can kind of be boiled down to "shy girl who is actually a duplicitous asshole who takes others for granted" and "hot head who is actually a really loyal friend with a strong sense of justice". I think the boss gimmick and characterization is fun and I like the subtle storytelling in the conceited Mai being an easier fight than a Yuki that's fighting for her fallen friend's sake. Mima is the obvious meme hu that people beg for a return of, but honestly I think I'd be more excited at this point to see Mai and Yuki make a comeback out of the blue.

>>107422I've played through the series in release order and I've 1cc'd every game up to LoLK which I think left me burnt out on the games for a good while. The games from HSiFS onwards don't seem very interesting to me but there's a few characters here and there that tickle my fancy like Okina and Megumu.
>>107440This is applicable to the vast majority of Touhou characters. If anything it causes the PC-98hus with actual characterization to stand out, like Mima, Yuuka, or the PoDD cast.

I don't think I have a single 1cc after 13, and 11 and Double Spoiler are the last games where I truly gave effort. I really miss when every single fairy wasn't a tank that takes like five seconds to kill at full power. Part of the fun in the older games was how quickly everything moved and having lots of disposable fairies was part of that. The lore drops off hard with 16.
>>107440>>107774Part of Touhou's appeal is how vague and open everything is, I think. No maps, no passing of time, barely any characterization, even of the most important characters. But that makes it easier to dream about, to fantasize, and in the end, it's all a world of fantasy. All the media, be it the games, manga, fan works, aren't be-all-end-all concrete facts about Gensokyo, but portraits of it, and that plants the seeds for those dreams. It isn't just fantasy, it's a fairy tale, which is why it's so special.
Anyway, the PC98 games take that vagueness to another level, to a dream within a dream, if you will. I like it, but damned if I can remember those random characters.

>>107780>I really miss when every single fairy wasn't a tank that takes like five seconds to kill at full powerI mean those have existed since MoF but I get what you mean.
>Part of Touhou's appeal is how vague and open everything is, I think. No maps, no passing of time, barely any characterization, even of the most important charactersI agree with you 100%. The soul of Touhou is the fanon interpretations.
It was just that anon claimed that only applies to PC98 games which is obviously incorrect.
>no passing of timeTo be more concrete on this one, Zun did say that time moves the same way in the outside world and in gensoukyou, the fact that the characters only age when Zun wants them to is just one of Zun's many contradictions.
Also are you one of the eso posters?
You write similarly to one that I've talked to before.

Last game I actually tried to 1cc was MoF but I gave up even though I was doing pretty well considering I didn't even use thprac.
I'd play Touhou more if I had the ability to focus. There's something wrong with me, I know that, but it's not like I'll ever ask for help either, shikata ga nai.
>>107798>Probably a no-no opinion but we could use some non-2hu /jp/ so other otaku franchises get a proper place.Which ones are you talking about? I personally can't stand anything newer than TD, and it sucks.
It's like I want to enjoy the newer games but I just can't.
I have 1cc'd everything up to WBaWC but I didn't enjoy them at all.
Which is why I haven't bothered with anything after that, because why bother if I'm not going to have fun?
Same with the print works, the only one I enjoyed was the 4koma one, and I just couldn't finish the rest.

>>109035There just wasn't anything particularly enjoyable about those games.
I don't like the OSTs.
Most characters weren't all that interesting (DDC is a exception to this).
gameplay (especially the stage design) took a big dive in quality and basically took everything I didn't like from the earlier games and made it worse.
And I wasn't really interested in the story in the first place (again DDC is a exception).
DDC was ok-ish, but LoLK, HSiFS and WBaWC were absolute agony to 1cc because I had to force myself to play them.
No.109045
>>109043>I don't like the OSTs.>Most characters weren't all that interestingAll subjective things, I respect your opinion so I won't bother arguing with you about it.
>And I wasn't really interested in the story in the first place (again DDC is a exception)I quite like LoLK and WBaWC's story because those 2 games' incidents actually feel like they're high-stakes stuff, as opposed to the cookiecutter incidents from PoFV, MoF, UFO and TD. Last time we had an incident that seriously threatened Gensokyo's well-being before LoLK was SA, which I also really like.
I can understand the HSiFS hate, up until relatively recently I thought it was pretty underwhelming story-wise, but reading the fairy manga made me realise just how dangerous the seasons shifting around like that could end up being. Also, objectively speaking it's pretty interesting to look at it from a game design standpoint as being a mix of PCB and DDC's incidents.
UM was alright, the ability cards are fun and story-wise I'd put it on par with MoF when it comes to the "incident scale", it felt like inoffensive filler. UDoALG on the other hand was a mess, there's no defending that pile of garbage. From my understanding it was an attempted continuation of WBaWC's story but then ZUN decided to throw in a bit of UM which felt really forced and then he added a fourth faction manipulating everything from the shadows which felt like such an asspull...
Fossilised Wonders is great, again it's another high-stakes incident which I really like, it's sort of like a LoLK 2.0 if you really want to dumb it down. I find the cast in particular to be very charming, they've got some great dialogue and interactions with one-another, as well as the existing cast. Probably one of the best-written games we got in a very long time.

>>109056>Why do you keep shilling it everywhere? It might surprise you, but I rarely post about it. I'm far from the only one recommending it.
And I do still recommend it sometimes because of the dozens of hours I've spent into coding the exe files (which have stuff like savefile sharing across versions, which you might not be interested in but others would) and tweaking the various settings so that people won't have to read about them.
Every person that plays the games thanks to that pack makes the time I've spent a little more worth it. Hopefully it's not annoying you that much.
