Hello /jp/kissu, I plan to host Sven Co-op on Sunday the 20th at around 8pm EST.
Sven Co-op is a free Half-Life multiplayer mod with a ton of custom maps. It's really chaotic and fun! Everyone is welcome to join, but please take it easy and don't be too obnoxious.
I'll have the necessary resources and instructions posted closer to when I host. If you have any questions, post em.

That's my main concern. I'd want to use it just to notify others of the games but... I do that with the thread. The main issue is the split between kissu and 4/jp/, and the unavoidable fact that people are going to miss out. Personally I don't wish to go back, even if it's to shit out a thread saying to check kissu.

Nope, we have threads here, but multiplayer stuff isn't too common. It "works" because Steam is isolated and most people here don't use it and there's people there that don't use kissu. Probably not much of a kissu steam group now that I think about it, but yeah.

Well, /amv/ didn't exist when the thread was made! I unfortunately moved those threads before we really thought about it much. I think it makes more sense to keep community threads in /qa/. Those other threads will get moved back if they become active again, I'm sure the OJ and Mahjong one will at least whereas others are more like completed playthroughs.

For what it's worth, that steam group was made 7 years ago during 4/qa/ and over time has nearly completely dwindled in activity since most everyone on it prefers using imageboards when possible so it most likely won't cannibalize anything.

The problem with taking the chatroom approach is you shut yourself off from the rest of the internet if there aren't people actively pushing for a space on an existing social platform to show what you do.
And this becomes harder the more entrenched your community gets with maintaining the existing social order.
The benefits of anonymous and public communities is these cliques can't form.
Just thoughts about if it's a good or bad thing and what you have to watch out for as someone running a chatroom extension of an existing platform

We successfully did it last year and it does indeed take 8 hours
Actually it took us more like 12+ hours due to having to restart multiple times

There's no breaks but there doesn't need to be, the only "gameplay" is the designated driver pressing a button every 30 seconds or so
Like all long journeys the real difficulty is trying to find something to entertain yourself with

Last time we did it over the 4th since a lot of burgers would be off having their religious holiday. I think it was the night of the 3rd going into the 4th. This time around the 4th is on a friday, so there's more wiggle room. Just set aside 15 hours or so if you're prepared to go the long haul.
As far as 'gameplay' goes, it's basically a chatroom; provided you aren't the driver or backup dancer to the driver.

i really only bring up the topic as an anon whos Fridays tend to be painfully packed beyond my control with things to do. depending on when you plan to start tomorrow, for example, i may or may not end up an hour or so late to the party. not the worst thing in the world usually but i've been waiting a full year for my chance at DB at this point. does anyone have any objections to that being started on July 5th instead perhaps? i'm only one anon so i wouldn't want to simply drastically sway things for everyone, but that is what would work best for me.

yeah that does make sense as a filthy burger myself, but that date may not be so merciful for me when the time comes is all.

I don't think the specific day really matters too much. It's not really much of a tradition, since we've only done it once so far! I only hosted it the 4th because Desert Bus seems like a very American thing to me, and I don't w*rk at all that week. An 8 hour bus ride through an empty desert...
